“如果沒有你，日子怎麼過．．．“收音機一邊播放著這首白光唱的老歌，一邊播放著不同人物訴說著對皇后碼頭的感情的聲音片段。
我不知到皇后碼頭該不該拆，因為我沒去過。我甚至不知到她在那裡。但在電視上看到的碼頭就不甚了了。只有白低黑字用中國書法寫成的一塊牌扁樹立在一個空動簡陋的碼頭上，單看表面實在說不出要保留的理由。大概人們想保留的並非單是這一個碼頭，而是很多像這碼頭一樣的歷史建築。中環警署、喜帖街、利舞臺﹣太多太多的回憶已經成為剷泥車下的亡魂，一去不返。能保留的就算價值成疑，人們還是要堅持下去。
沒有回憶的城市是空心的。既然已是歷史的一部份，何苦要為了甚麼辱國甚麼去殖民化而作出不必要的破壞？若然歷史跟文明進步是對立的，那麼巴黎羅馬這些國際都會早就該淪淊了。
如果沒有皇后碼頭人們的日子還是一樣的過。不同的，只是這個本來已逐漸荒涼的小島將變成一個更滄白無味的亞洲國際都會。
